After completing a degree in Business Management, Ben worked in both the public and private sector before going in to teaching.
He has been a Headteacher of two very different schools in Wolverhampton. The first, St Martin’s Primary also involved responsibility for the Children’s Centre on site. Ben led the school through two successful Ofsted inspections and two SIAMS inspections, the most recent of which resulted in an Outstanding grade.
St Martin’s Federation became a multi-academy trust in 2014 and Grove Primary joined the trust as a sponsored academy in 2016. Grove is a large, multi-cultural primary school that had a history of significant difficulties and low attainment. It had been placed in special measures twice. Ben became Headteacher of Grove Primary in November 2016. As a result of his leadership, the school was judged to be good at its November 2018 inspection.
Ben is a very experienced presenter and trainer. He has led mathematics development days and presented extended mathematics professional development across the country. He has provided advice to school leadership teams on the implementation of mathematics improvement strategies.
Since 2015, Ben has also devised and presented the Wolverhampton NQT and Schools Direct programmes. He has also facilitated NPQSL and NPQML programmes.
Ben has worked with Helen Morrison for a number of years as she has provided external challenge, advice and support through her strategic reviews at all schools in the St Martins trust.
